Can you remember when you were new to blogging and it was all a bit overwhelming? I certainly can!!! I remember when I first tried to add someone's grab button to my blog. I tried following a few tutorials, but nothing worked. I was missing something, but what?
Yeah, I know... it's easy as. Why couldn't I add it? I absolutely, positively didn't want to ask Mr TMW, but in the end I did. I look back now and wonder why I couldn't solve the problem straight away myself. I was almost there and missing such a tiny thing.
If you are new to blogging and would like to add someone else's button to your blog, this tutorial will show you how. These instructions are for Blogger blogs.
 | To the left is the grab button for the Ongoing Link Parties, here on Threading My Way. Underneath the button, is the code you need to copy to add the button to your blog. Now this is the mistake I made when I was learning. I did not copy ALL the code. I only copied the code that could be seen. In the case of my button, you can see 4 lines of code, but there are actually 13 lines. |

You can, of course, use keyboard shortcuts. Now that you have highlighted all the code, Copy it by right clicking or using the Edit menu.
Go back to your own blog. You can paste the code into one of your posts, or you can put it in your sidebar.
To add the code to one of your posts, make sure you are in HTML mode and then paste the code where you want it to appear in the post. Switch to Compose mode and you will see the button. When you have finished the post, Publish as usual.
To add the code to your sidebar, go to your Dashboard. Click on the arrow and select Layout.
Click on Add a Gadget.
Scroll down till you get to HTML/JavaScript and add.
Click in the Content box and Paste the code... Edit > Paste or Right click > Paste
You can add a Title if you wish.
Click Save.
You can reposition the gadget by dragging it to where you want it. Click Save arrangement.
View your blog and you will now see the blog button you have added. Well done!!!

Thanks for the help with the Google+ no-reply thing. I didn't change anything really... my account was already set up the way the tutorials said. I checked it on my blog and I can reply to myself... so I am just now going around asking people if they can reply to my comments. LOL

ReplyDeleteJust one more tip about HIGHLIGHTing the code to be able to copy: The keyboard shortcut to highlight, AFTER you place the cursor in the box at the beginning of the html of the button is ctrl+A and then all you have to do is hit the C button to copy while still holding the ctrl button! I love keyboard shortcuts- usually SO much faster. Yes, I too want to know how to make the button.
